GBYWS Service Project 2013-2014
The Haven of RCS Domestic Violence Outreach Center in Clearwater, FL
was this year’s community service project.

SERVICE PROJECT Update: Thursday, July 31, 2014
Several club members attended the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting of the new RCS Domestic Violence Outreach Center today in Clearwater. One of the contributions we made in 2013-2014 was funds for a paver which has been placed in the walkway at the front door of the Center.

The HAVEN of RCS empowers victims of domestic violence to become survivors and saves lives. It offers a variety of services that benefit our community: 24-hour crisis line, Confidential Emergency Safe House, Safety Planning, Legal Advocacy for victims navigating the court systems, 911 Cell Phone Distribution, Support Groups for Women & Children, Dating Violence Education, Counseling and Advocacy, Prevention Programs, Peacemaker Programs, and Community Education that reaches even the smallest victims, our community’s children.
GBYWS Service Project’s primary focus with The Haven of RCS will be to collect items for The Haven Emergency Safe House and for their RCS Thrift Store. We will be collecting items at our October meeting (a truck will be provided). If you would like to get a head start, typically The Haven’s needs include the following (gently used or new items): Twin-sized bed linens, towels & washcloths, cooking & baking pans, cell phones, alarm clocks, sleep shirts, women’s underwear & socks, child strollers & car seats. Also: body wash & lotions, deodorant, razors, toothbrushes & paste, laundry & dish detergents, shampoo & hair products, feminine hygiene, toilet paper, paper towels, facial tissue, coffee, peanut butter & jelly, diapers, and baby formula. The Thrift Store needs: clothing, furniture, and household items (furniture pickup is available).
The Haven of RCS Outreach Manager, Courtney Hendrickson, joined us at our September 5, 2013 meeting to explain the importance of the project. GBYWS is really looking forward to contributing to The Haven, to offer help and hope, and to assist in building lives for women in need in our community.
